I am Thankful...

As we read this lets think about
all those that didnt live to see
1st of August 2006,like the people
who died in the many blasts around
the world this past month, here in
Nigeria a huge building collapsed last
week killing many. I'm grateful to be
alive and well, we sure do have a lot
to be thankful for.
Now don't we?

I AM THANKFUL:

FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE
IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED .

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A
HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH..

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN
CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

AND FINALLY FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE!!!

The more basic and universal the good, the more I feel it appropriate to be thankful. Otherwise, say if I feel grateful to God or Life for having plenty of money or a nice car or a lot of creature comforts, I start to see things through the eyes of the have-nots. And if I'm being blessed in some way with good things, that would mean they're being cursed - or at least not blessed. And I can't see that, in general, the haves of the world are the good people and the have-nots are the bad...

lovely post and so true!!
In the rush of our lives we tend to crib so much and we easily forget to thank god for giving us these basics in life to be thankful for!

thats a very nice post Chris..

Im thankful for who I am...Im thankful that Im not a cheat, thief or a terrorist. All in all, I'm thankful that I don't hurt anyone intentionally. So even if I die tomorrow my life would have been worth it.

Keshi.

True words of gratitude.

I learnt some new things even as I am not happy that my last venture did not make me smile to the bank.

Thank you for sharing and God bless.

Margie, I'm glad u did, thks.

Lalitha, ur sure rite... so much 2 b thankful for, hey did I tell u ur a wonderful mum? well u r.

Well Darius if u ask me , i wnt agree with u abt the haves being blessed and stuff, the problem is that we measure everything by material things, what of the rich guy who's stinkingly rich- a Nigerian slang, and is dying with a terminal disease, and the poor guy whos bouncing around 50/50. aha! who's blessed here?

Buki, thks a zillion 4 stopping by, hpe u'll come back.

Anand u no, ur so rite, we always 4get, but y?

keshigirl, u can say that again. I'm thankful I'm not a cheat o!

Osinachi, dnt wori, next time u'll smile to the bank, Amen.

tks all of ya 4 stopping by.I appreciate it.
