The Test Of A True Winner

The test of a true Winner is how they act when they're NOT Winning.
How you manage and deal with adversity has a great deal to do with
whether or not you have the stuff it takes to be a Winner.
Afterall it's a very easy thing to be upbeat and positive when everything is
going the way it should.

But all true Winners have one main trait in common. They all have the
ability to stay focused and move forward when things don't go according to Hoyle(know what that means?). Your days won't ever be perfect; the AC won't always work, there might not be light when you get home after a very stressful day (for my pals in Lagos),car batteries do tend to die at the most inappropriate times and that check you expected in today's mail won't always arrive.

Hey, that's life in the big city. But the point is, the way you deal with these stumbling blocks is a huge determining factor in being a winner.
If you dwell on the stumbling blocks that life throws into your path
you'll never find the time to be a Winner. On the other hand if you
deal with them and move forward with a positive attitude you're well
on your way to being one of "Life's TRUE Winners".

And there's also the matter of what it means to "win." There is outward success; but then there is also giving and doing your best, win or lose. Doing our best often brings outward success, but not necessarily. Adversity that's severe enough can eliminate possibilities for that.

Our blogs are on the same wavelength this week, I posted a "Tenacity Prayer" yesterday.

Yes but one stumbling block after another can just push people out of ones path...

Yet another thought provoking post and yet again I feel like your talking to me. ;)

Very well said, it is easy to be happy and positive when you are winning, but it takes a special person to face adversity with a smile.

I have a perfect attitude to life as set in the life of the perfect teacher Jesus Christ.

All the problems and evils in the world are caused by our disobedience to the Word of God.

If you really and truly love your neighbour as yourself as God commanded and Jesus Christ reinforced, you wouldn't be at loggerheads or competing with him or her.

Those who make life difficult for others and fish in troubled waters often frustrate others to fail.
The failures of others are the successes of others.

If you love your neighbour, you will not allow him or her to fail or lose.

We should immediately help people once they sufffer any predicament so that they will not have to suffer any adversity.

Poverty is man made.

Lady Oprah Winfrey's Kindness Revolution is a good example. But who can we point to as an Oprah of Nigeria?

Giving alms to a beggar is not charity.

Giving food to the poor is not charity.

Making the poor your servants is not charity.

Employing the daughter of the poor widow to be your housegirl while your own children go to school is neither help nor charity but wickedness.

I am making all the above references, because they are very common reactions to adversity in my country.

When people wonder why an oil rich country like Nigeria is still a very poor country, the answer is not far away.

We point accusing fingers at corrupt public officials. But, most of us are to blame. Because, poverty in Nigeria is caused by our negative reaction to adversity.

Poverty is a state of human adversity.

How many poor people have we helped not by mere words of sympathy and giving them a copy of Dr. Robert H. Schuller's bestseller, Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do!. But by asking them, "What do you need most now?"
A conducive shelter?
A support to further or complete your education?
A well paying job and not where one would be more miserable.

I am an artist and a good producer and I was going through some setbacks and I asked a very wealthy man for help. And I once worked for him as an artist. The way he wanted to help me was that I should come an be his driver and the salary he wanted to pay me in 1991 was even 1,000 times less than my monthly income as a professional production assistant and script-writer for the Nigerian Television Authority(NTA). And this man claims to be a very good Christian?

But the Americans employed me as a project artist and even published my works and wanted to get me an agent in New York.

America is rich, because of how America reacts to adversity. And Nigeria is poor, because of how Nigeria reacts to adversity.

Most of us in Nigeria are responsible for the terrible state of Nigeria and no amount of sermons in all the churches and motivational centres in Nigeria can change us until we begin to truly help our neighbours as ourselves and help the underprivileged to rise above their handicaps and realize their dreams and goals.

I have seen millions of dreams become still-born in Nigeria, not because of adversities, but because of greediness and wickedness of most of those posing and posturing as "christians" and "pious Muslims". Nigeria was better and richer when most Nigerians were pagans in their villages. Because, in our communal village life, we loved our neighbours as ourselves. If a villager's hut got razed by fire, the other villagers will join hands to help him or her rebuild the hut.

How we react to our own adversity and the adversity of others will show our true worth to humanity.

We should be partners and not rivals and then we will all be winners and there would be no losers in this world.

God bless.
